How Do You Delete the Expand/Collapse Header Triangle in a Document?

By August Isley

To delete the expand/collapse header triangle in a Word document, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Document: Open your Word document that contains the expand/collapse feature.
  2. Select the Heading: Scroll through your document to find the headings with the expand/collapse triangle. Click on the heading text to select it.
  3. Change the Style: Go to the "Home" tab in the top menu. In the "Styles" group, click on the style of the selected text (e.g., Heading 1, Heading 2). Click on the small arrow at the corner of the Styles group to open the Styles Pane.
  4. Modify the Style: In the Styles Pane, right-click on the heading style and select "Modify." A new window will pop up.
  5. Change Paragraph Settings: In the Modify Style window, click on the "Format" button at the bottom left, and then select "Paragraph." In the Paragraph window, go to the "Outline level" dropdown menu and select "Body Text."
  6. Save Changes: Click "OK" to save your changes and close all dialog boxes. Your headings should now display without the expand/collapse arrows.

By following these steps, you can remove the expand/collapse feature from your Word document.
